Miscegenation

           Miscegenation

Forgotten on the bottom of the sea

Or buried under conquered, conquered stones,

Lost cargo holds and funeral urns are free

From passion.  They are there because the bones

Of empire need some place to rest and be

A vintage slightly redolent of moans.

The fermenation of sores in history

Lurks there because of idols, lust and thrones.

  Or archaeology bring them back

To light and open them, they show wheat

And ashes.  But out of them flow rivers

Of calm and of a monumental lack

Of relevance to victory and defeat.
