Ruth and Maw

Ruth and Maw

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

What Wordsworth worships, Nature, will not stop

Its gulps.  Insatiable it just goes on and on

With gobble, gobble, gobble.  Agitprop

From poets will not change the gulping yawn.

That mouth is vast beyond a poet’s lines.

That mouth, those teeth, that throat are larger than

The sentiment of William.  His designs

On paper are minuscule in the van

Of galaxies that chomp down passing mates

Like praying mantises.  Destruction reigns

From fawns brought down by claws to sharpened fate

Matched everywhere across the stars’ domains.

The munching is immortal, if its breath

Can mean alive.  It belches endless death.
