The Motto at Dephi

        The Motto at Dephi

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

Escape the feudal clamps upon your soul,

The Marxist ones in Cuba, moneyed ones

At Mar a Lago.  Leave your begging bowl

If you are like the wrinkled convent nuns

In constant wimpled prayer, addictions to

The sucking of tobacco curse, the suck

You take on Instagram and TikTok.  Shoo

Away these unrealities and chuck

Them into sewers they belong in.  Turn

To truth, the truth you always knew beside

Your sternum.  Let that marrow, flaming, burn

Instead of falseness.  Be yourself truth’s bride.

No.  Be both bride and groom to what you know

Is you and only you.  Caress that glow.
