The Methods of the Buddhist Monks’ Bakery and Buddha’s Lips like Horizontal Slugs

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

If God’s archangel were a slug or frog

The Japanese might write a haiku on

God’s glowing singer.  In a Buddhist fog

The slug might glow, and meaning’s frog might spawn.

The slug and frog and firefly lust in night

Might be in equal meaning, lightning bugs

A revelation of satori’s light,

A holiness embracing even slugs.

Religion that insists that solid things

Reveal the spirit need that fog and mist

To win the acolytes required.  The wings

Of archangelic meaning mean bugs kissed.

The Buddha smiles his sëer lips.  The beasts

Glow neon-like.  Religions use mist yeasts.
