That Deeper Calendar

The songs of love live stronger than the songs
Of seasons. Lancelots and Guineveres
Go singing through the souls. Their love belongs
In every age, all throats of balladeers.
The seasons and the seas, the mountains, lakes
And climbing moons and setting suns, the fall,
The spring, the summer months, the wintry aches
Of loss attempt to hijack hearts and call
Our poetry to lurch away from love,
But jubilees of love win over realms
Of nature, triumph in our lines above
The seasons’ grandeur. Loving overwhelms.
Combine those lovers with the threat of death,
That gives their loving timelessness’s breath.
