It Does Not Waver in the Penance Air

Solemnity is what one wax flame holds.

Although the light is solemn, it holds weight.

The white of candle with the flame enfolds

The quiet moments monks will celebrate

On holy days, on Maundy Thursdays or

Good Fridays, and in fasts.  The burn, on high

Above the purity of column for

The spirit, is the fire that Jesus’ eye

Perceives beside the throne of God. Christ sees

All lights immortal, so solemnity

Belongs in parallel with Plaeides

Related to Christ’s blood’s indemnity.

The candle flame does not wield black hole force

But monks find prayers to fill glows with remorse.
