By Reason of Thy Brightness
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
If we attain exactly everything,
Yes, even far beyond what we have dreamed,
Our wishes filled with sex and love on wing
In Heaven’s flight, if what we want is beamed
Forever fleshily and every kind
Of beauty comes in flooding to our hearts,
And every titillation of the mind
Fills up our brains, and zinging body parts
Are thrilled, thrilled, thrilled forever, then what more
Can souls like ours require? The myth we know
Provides the threat. An angel pushed the door
Because in glory he desired hot glow.
He wanted more than wings. He wanted skin

Of power alive with singing, zinging sin.
