Berserker Bees
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
The honeybee emerges from its cell,

Six-sided birth arrangement. She becomes
A nurse bee, keeping newest brood ones well
While cleaning. Then when hearing silent drums
She flies away to foraging in flowers.
She brings back pollen and the sweetness of
The nectar from the blossoms. Other powers
Are trussed and they are only communistic love.
She turns to building of the honeycomb.
And fighting off intruders with her sting,
But if the hive is queen-less, then this gnome
Can mate with drones, a final, useless fling.
This six-part life is little, brief, six weeks
For socialized and slave-like little freaks.
