Ancient Wisdom Long Lost
In ancient Egypt thinkers got it right.
They separated people from the gods.
The people were not given any sight
Of sanctum goddesses. The sweaty squads
Of humans had to stay outside and guess
What happened in the pillared space. The tones
Of sacred music did not give caress
Of sound to ears outside in common zones.
The music was for gods and pharaohs wed
To sisters, sisters wed to brothers, blood
And incest intertwined. The royal bed
Provided ears for music’s drumming thud.
Outside these sheets and families, temples, halls
Of columns, hymning was forbidden.
