A Man of Many Talents but Modest
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
He says he cannot read hard poetry
But when he reads it, he does understand
It even when it holds philosophy
About some Hindu mysteries, grand
And deep and hard to comprehend. He has
A first degree and now is working on
Another. He has been successful as
An engineer on ships from dawn to dawn

In many seascapes all around the world
And so he grasps geography from zone
To zone. His mind and mouth and throat have furled
Around three languages, each one is known.
He knows about most women and most men,
But of himself he cannot say amen.
