A Combination Called Perfect Unity

A Combination Called Perfect Unity

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

The swifts in spring are wonders set with wings.

The spring that flourishes with swifts is spring

Combining elements with common springs,

Yet this is not enough to make them zing

With spirit meaning.  This comes only when

The swifts are more than birds with wings (made whole

In doctrine) when their essence meaning, Zen,

Becomes at one with spring itself.  Braid soul

Of bird with soul of spring and meld them one,

And then the mysteries of both become

One mystic entity as if the sun

And moon turn one in April, perfect sum.

The spirits of the swifts, the spirit of

The spring become one symbol — meaning love.
