A Cat Means Love . . .

. . . But then you have to know that claws and teeth
Are parts of what a cat is. If you can
Not deal with killing facts, then you’re beneath
Consideration. Cats’ keen eyes will scan
The world for movements of a bird or mouse
And then the cat will bring in punctured fur

And black and staring eye, and so your house
Will be a slaughter scene. He’ll even churr
In taunting and then he will clamp the throat
And eat the head and guts. If it’s a bird,
The beak will be stretched wide. His heart will gloat
And on the carpet feathers will be slurred.
So, love him if you will and let him love
You back. Try do not dwell upon that dove.
