Ever Ready Reverie
The way a cat sleeps shows the way we need
To live. It lies there certainly and calm,
A firmness in its purpose, like a seed
Prepared for any chances like a palm
Or oak, a sunny palm tree curved as grace
With strength, a younger oak preparing for
A storm. The cat loves dozing with her face
Tucked into paws but, sleeping in her more
Than quietude, there lurks a forceful will
With teeth and keenest snarling zeal to strike.
Her dreaming claws themselves are rhymed with kill
And power. The soft and fierce are both alike.
Awakened, she is instantly alive
To harms and struggling mice life might contrive.
So I’ve noticed that 12 of the poems posted during the month this one was (May, 2019) don’t have their line breaks, so they look almost like stealth sonnets disguised as regular prose paragraphs, except that what would be the first words of each line are in fact capitalized. Is this intentional, or was the regular line spacing for these sonnets somehow lost?
I opened this one (the last one posted in that May) and indeed when it was not OPENED, there were no line breaks, but when opened, they were there. I’ve now increased the size of its lettering, but done nothing else to it. My first reaction to this set of events is to question whether the other 11 you cite are like this one–not really lacking line breaks. When I’m less discouraged, I’ll investigate further. Yes, you can assume that I was not the cause of this f*ck *p you found. I have no clue what caused it. Thanks very much for intervening.
