Not the Daughter of Louhi

Not the Daughter of Louhi

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

The moral of the legend, of the tale

Of Lemminkäinen comes through

To minds refusing to be straight.  They sail

Like Tuonela’s swan.  They swim the true

Quest, quoting manly myths.  He did not need

That woman as his lover or his bride.

The greater truths too easily recede

When straighter attitudes prevent the stride

To strength and beauty when despite your heart

Full-knowing that the shapes you want are there

Beside you always waiting with pure heart

Of man not snapping ambush or a snare.

Accept the black that sails along with black.

Accept that feast and not a female snack.
