Sometimes a Dream is Nightmare

Sometimes a Dream is Nightmare

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

At times a dream is nightmare when the dream

Is not a nightmare.  Dreams will wade, drag to

Drowneed needs, pull like an undertow.  Dreams seem

All pretty, then from that to witches’ brew

They cook.  Dreams meet that one, that him, that her

And you are whisked to bliss, to roses pink

And lavender, but then that dream turns cur.

You learn that dreams can make it hard to think

In black and white, in red and blue unmixed.

That him, that her turns into hairy real.

The prettiness of dreaming comes unfixed.

Dreams turn to two-edged sharpened blood-shaped steel.

Don’t take the mystic step.  Don’t take the true

Away.  These dreams bring your prophetic view.
