Higher Still Desires
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
His graduation goes still higher, his height
Increased by dance with mortarboard of black
Flung high. From earth of foreign land his flight
Soars higher. He has fought off life’s attack,
Attacks, attacks. The dark gray clouds above
Are now attacked by him. He dances joy.
With hat and robe and dance shoe he will shove
Life’s weight away and make life’s trials a toy
For him to play with. He will be a cloud
Of fire with Indian skin and eyes.
His beauty will be proved, his parents proud.
He now is soaring to his fated skies.
His soaring will keep soaring as he wings
Above his past. His loving lover sings.
