Ghost-like Skylark Singing Fills the Air

Ghost-like Skylark Singing Fills the Air

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

Before he finds the firmament his voice

Has disappeared and he has disappeared.

The purity of cloud has forced his choice

To wrap him up and turn his song to sheared

And wraith-like revenance.  Though once we heard

The singing clear as mother love, we now

Must strain to hear it since it now is stirred

With whitened muteness.  It is like a vow

Is forced upon him as he rises past

Our ears, a vow we wish would not erase

The miracle he enters in the vast

Beyond, the miracle of proven grace.

The lilting space he fills our heaven with

    Becomes an unseen lyric monolith.
