Unchangingness Must Change

Unchangingness Must Change

You sometimes feel that life goes on the same.

The birds that sang dawn’s chorus notes near you

Just yesterday will sing again, declaim

Their message as before to coming blue

Of sky.  The sun will rise.  The moon will set.

Composers will continue with their songs.

The Milky Way will tilt above.  And yet . . .

Conditions might . . . forbid . . . them . . . to . . . share songs

Tomorrow . . . and  . . . tomorrow . . . and . . . the next . . .

Days onward.  What we take for granted will

Be yanked away, an evil fate be flexed.

What always has been will begin to spill.

Unchanging things will suddenly then change

Since only perfect permanence is strange.

[…but then,  “plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose”.]
