Because of Cemetery Stones

Modern poetry modern verse conteern poem mporary poetry contemporary verse modcontemporary poem

I want my husband, call him what you will,

To cover me with selfish, manly hate.

I want the emptiness of holes to spill

The universe’s meaning.  I want fate

From him to flood my mountain cave with fire.

I want to spread myself apart for him.

I want love’s lava gushed with depths’ desire.

I want the melted rocks to scream their hymn.

What wilted woman wants, I know I need,

And yet I want the strength to hold him, all

Of him and what he leaves inside, decreed

As only men can do.  Our souls must crawl.

Because of him we know which gods are meant

And after him we wish volcano’s scent.
