Across the hemisphere and then across

The world, the eagle’s talons stretch and grasp.

What used to be America can toss

It soldiers and its bombs.  The distant gasp

Of kids it kills in schools cannot be heard

Because instead we hear the TV’s roar

Of mushroom shaped attacks.  The preying bird

Has just one song:  “War!” “War!” “War!” “War!” “War!” “War!”

Wings used to have a group of hymns and songs,

“America the Beautiful” might come

To mind, but now we hear the chords of wrongs.

Wrongs, WRONGS.  Her tongue is poisoned dumb, Dumb, DUMB,

The dream of promise and of plenty dies

    Wherever screaming, clawing eagle flies.
