Craving
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
Go seeking round the world and you will find
No truth as great and large as your desire.
It has its holy place with love enshrined
Where mothers of dead children light the fire
For altar candles, or where suicides
Of love can never die, or where the beds
Of loves forbidden swallow hungry brides.
You find desire in poisoned arrowheads
Of gold that strike their targets when an eye
Unwary falls upon a shoulder shape

In front of you in church. Hearts must comply.
Men know lust best when ramming lust in rape.
Medea knew desire enough to kill
Her sons, her vengeance making child blood spill.
