Speedy Affliction
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
Addiction is an evil when it brings
You love. The Greeks were right about that drug
Delivered by an arrow. Its point stings
You with the chemical. That Cupid thug
Injects you with an instant hooking dose
And you become dependent on its high.
Your heart becomes a bully, bellicose
With harming weapons. Looking at a thigh
Or nippled chest will ruin any hope
For Christ’s salvation. Love forbids the room
Of grace and faith because that lust is dope
Like heroin. It needles you with doom.
Like crack cocaine this kind of love invades

Your soul. The filth fills heart and then cascades.
