Where Epics and Divinities Come From
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
The reason that the thought of God or gods
Arose in man’s existence is like need
For poetry. When humankind just plods
Along, its heart and mind together plead
For something wonderful to sing inside
The soul (if soul there be). If women, men
And children have bits more than just a hide
Around them, they will feel a certain yen
For things like poetry, a certain god
And such like things. The spirits (if there be
Such entities) were yearning to be awed
And searched for things like mist’s eternity.
So, almost certainly the aching will
Result in prophets, gods and other swill.
