Time-limited Desire
Of course we all might hesitate before
We think and act. We know this since
The end of every action is ordained, is sore
With doom. Our destinies will always mince
Our thoughts and actions when the cosmos can.
It chows on them and will not try to bring
Them back to life. Philosophers may scan
All possibilities. One of them may sing
Of Infinite Recurrence, but that ain’t
The truth. Our lives and all their elements
Are shoved to nothingness. Yes, both the saint
And sinner are one-time experiments.
We think. We hesitate—and then we try.
We try. We try. And then at last we die.
