Do angels have some hair beneath the arm?
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
Do angels have some hair beneath the arm
Or wing? If so, just where? Beneath the wing
Would make the hairs seem heavenly. No harm
In that, correct? But would Christ really sing
The beauty of their armpit puff of fur?
Would he wax eloquent if it were blond,
Or black, or brown. What praise would it incur
If His archangels trilled in love beyond
The usual for body hair sub-wings
Or shoulders? Certainly there’d be no sweat
In tufts of them, or if there were, no pings
Of stench would cause archangel nose to fret.
Instead, archangel nose would subtly sense
Just Bethlehem-like myrrh and frankincense.
