Stronger than the Impossible Situation Houdini Escaped From

This morning of this spring just passed is past.

It always can’t return, not ever.  Then

The day when it’s remembered(?) — it would last

A moment and be gone.  We know this when

We face the truth.  A Nietzschean theory.

Or Christian doctrine cannot win

Against this truth.  You fight till weary,

Beyond that tiredness fight, yet in the sin

Of struggle you will lose.  No.  You have lost

Already, always, lost the fight before

You start.  Already always you have crossed

To time and place that has no open door.

Houdini asked his wife to search the cave

Of death for him but he can’t slip the grave.
