Who Needs a Non-existent Soul?
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
Happiness is no more than good health and bad memory. ~ Albert Schweizer
This moment holds the whole of you, your past,
And your today. And since there’s nothing more,
You live in it. You feel that it is vast
Because it holds your history. In your core
Is everything. Not just the you in now
But all your memories, all your dreams inside
Your mind, your long-lost dreams that you can plough
Up, in tonight, today. Your daydreams ride
Up in you. Nightmares wait their black hole turn
Inside your brain. The whole of you is here,
Not just your flesh with genitals that burn
Again, again with all your love and fear.
This moment does not hold your soul because
No soul exists. You, only, hold your laws.
