The birds are happy with their songs. They sing
Them yet again, again. Unchanging through
Millennia the nightingale will bring
Its notes forever old, forever new.
Upon the ever new and ever old
Clear air of nighttime, melodies are sent.
The mockingbird forever, though, sings bold
New, newer variations. Each ascent
To freshness in its notes remains the same
Since melody is melody. Each throat
Insists on loveliness, a love-time flame
Sung out in melody of note, note, note.
The birds refuse to change to sound of prose
