It’s much the same here in my messy home

On New Year’s Day.  The books lie all about

And all about amazing things.  A tome

Of explanations of the Bible, no doubt

In readings, but of course.  Another book

(An orgy of wide Oriental thought)

Is open on a brass book stand to hook

My mind with mysticism.  Like some snot

Another volume beckons me to read

The mental illness of a bloke

Who writes non-sentences in crazy screed

Expecting me to read it and not choke.

  One book is chock-a-block with poets’ quotes

    And on it sits a bowl of porridge oats.
