The Darkness

The Darkness

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

The days and weeks and months transport us to

Eternity.  The years move you much more

In slowness to our fate.  Our decades queue

More stilt-like, yet we never see before

Us more than trudging time.  Eternity

Escapes our senses.  We are like a school

Of blind messiahs, blind fraternity

Of ignorance as if there were a rule

That we should stumble.  If there be a law

About all this, perhaps it is unknown

To all including the divine.  God’s awe

Like ours looms dark in life’s unseeing zone.

The centuries are beyond our seers, eyes

Too wide to see our black light’s dark surprise.
