Reach Out and Touch

 Reach Out and Touch

The mystic cites a grain of sand.  He means

An emerald, cut, belonging to the New

Jerusalem, implying all the greens

That Christ created.  Though the mystic knew

Of sapphires and of diamonds, he chose

To mean not blue; not purest of clarity;

But green in omnipresence since he knows

What God is like, like growing charity

As when expanding universes sprawl

Forever everywhere, the hue of growth

Uncountable, unending, more than all

The unknown rules of perfect Shavuoth.

  The mystic cites one grain.  He means a gem

    More pure than Jesus’ untouched passing hem.
