In the Arteries Inside the Artesian Chest

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

Artesian arteries are filled with hosts

Of angels.  They go flowing from the heart,

Are heaved along by love, replacing ghosts

In haunted vessels which a desert part

Has held too long.   The arteries distend

With scarlet angel wings unfurling, fast

Like Gabriel in flight to tell of blend

Of God and man, a surging like a vast

Salvation told to someone, some one maid

Cram packed with wonder.  You are with her.  He

And seraphim true love are not betrayed

When flights of angels come to lift you free.

Far more than blood goes rushing when such wings

Gush round from heaven as a new love sings.
