“What you are speaks so loudly, I cannot hear what you say.”  ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

You know the kind of person, wife or friend,

That politician or your parish priest,

Or higher up, that pope, you “vilipend”

As Chaucer’s Wyf of Bath might say, the least

Worth hearing.  We discount the bad witness

Advisors, ipso facto what they are,

Because they’ve proved themselves of poor fitness

For knowledge.  They become a dethroned czar

To his supporters.  Such a monarch in

Your home or wider life has been reduced

In stature like a toppled statue.  Bin

These people’s tongues and wisdom, you’ve deduced.

You hear their lack of character, so loud,

That your respect for them is disallowed.

~ Phillip  Whidden
