In Sum

Religion is a deaf and dumb and blind
Predicter. It pretends — but that is all.
Its walking cane is white and red. Its mind
Sees less than canes, its hearing aid too small
To hear beyond the grave. Religion speaks.
That’s true, but backward like an LP forced
Against all common sense. So, little squeaks
And scratches fill the séance room, divorced
From truth except for gullible, blind eyes
And ears too desperate to hear some sound
Not there. The LP squawks of pretty skies,
Refusing to admit what’s underground.
Religions and philosophies like Zen
Should shut their mouths for women and for men.
