God, Christ and Adam First of All

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

A place that never saw the beauty of

A man, the beauty, masculinity—

The beauty of his manhood—cannot love

The truth of God’s and Christ’s divinity

Not any more than Limbo understands

The gorgeousness of everything that God

Created or enjoy the angel bands

In chorus ranged around and singing, awed

In total glory.  There is glory there

That Mars and Venus never knew, that Mars’

And Saturn’s beauty never can compare

Themselves to, planets set among the stars.

Where maleness shows it power, its swollen power,

All other beauties can but pout and glower.
