“little unremembered acts of kindness and love” ~ William Wordsworth

The blessing of the morning sun on lochs

And bens is like a promise raised from night.

The blessing of your parents’ home by clocks

In childhood days when heard again from height

Of manhood’s memory brings back smells of love,

Your mother’s musk perfume, your father by

Your side with bedtime stories.  Then above

These comes the blessing of a noontime sky

Above papaya and hibiscus blooms.

The blessing of the evening sun is best

In immemorial support in rooms

Left long ago, the blessing of the west.

The blessing of a crescent in the stars

Stays, waiting, as you write your youth’s memoirs.

~ Phillip Whidden
