“Simplify, simplify” ~ Henry David Thoreau, Walden

“Simplify, simplify” ~ Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

Does Christ have orchids in his living room—

And roses, red in tea variety,

A vase of Birds of Paradise to loom

Where Persian carpets love multeity,

Or does He go for Shaker chairs and chuns,

For Bauhaus tables set along strict lines

Of functionality where cleanness yearns

For nothing more, or spheroid Nazi mines

To blow up battleships?  Does God in bed

Sleep under comforters (with cotton sheets)

With death tucked up in closets full of dread?

Does God have dreams of dirty asphalt streets.

Simplicity is what the Triune God

Desires.  He wants us kneeling, overawed.
