Shiva Mahadeva
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
The warrior, Mahadeva, holds his love
Upon his thighs, and nearby on a pond
The lotuses bloom, pink. Nearby, above
Them in a Hindu heaven space, beyond
Mere rationality, dream’s dignity,
Dream’s deep white bull protects, and, hovering, flies
In virgin stillness and alone is free
As only gods can float. His hovering eyes
See love and love alone, alert though for
The danger of the world, the fang snarls from
It, loveless as it is. His horns might gore,
Yet aspects here with lovelinesses thrum.
The god extends his arm to show the Truth
Beneath it, beauties’ shapes in curving youth.
