Mystic Spengler

           Mystic Spengler

“Spengler regarded as . . . irreconcilable and mutually ununderstandable, the Classical feeling of the present moment, of restricted space, and the Modern European feeling of eternity, infinity”

Eternity is like a never flower,

A flower you never see and never smell—

And never will—and it is like a shower

Of never-ending shooting stars that swell

Across a universe you cannot know.

It cannot be of time since time is flowers.

It cannot be of shooting stars which flow

From hearts of constellations since these showers,

These stars, belong to seconds, moments most.

The present moment, too, cannot be known.

It flashes faster than that shooting host,

The whole of both continuous with moan.

The same (the present and eternity),

Full flowers, shot stars — are, each, supernity.
