Out of Mind

Assynt by Mehmet Kartay
I’m too imaginationless to think
Antarctic rock came traveling underneath
Lost continents and oceans here to sink
More deep than granite and then peaks bequeath
To Assynt is beyond my brain. First off,
I never conjured northwest Scotland’s heft
Of gneiss in torture or its stone made trough
For coldest blue of Assynt, loch long left
Before a human mind or any mind
Conceived it. Deepest rock now at a height
Antarctic pole could never have designed
Is married to a western Scottish bight.
This movement shoved it through the tropic zone
In far-flung eons, timelessness unknown.
