Roomy

                                 Roomy

The more important things are far too large

For veins and arteries, so these things stay,

Bulging, pulsing in my heart.  They each enlarge

Because of you.  It would not let them stray

If ever they might find a way to break

Out.  It would hold them like the sun holds earth

In happy orbit.  Even if they ache

To leave their home, it will not give them berth

Outside my chest.  I harbor them as Christ

Hold thorns around his sacred heart.  The loves

That matter are a poltergeist

And not just precious pinky flitting doves.

My atria and ventricles are strong

Enough to hold you.  Stay where you belong.
