A Resurrected Apollo in the Afternoon in Brevard County, Florida

Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem

No mist defied his eyesight but a haze

Surrounded everywhere he walked.  The grove

Behind his boyhood home was in a blaze

Or orange and darker green.  Religion drove

A fog through rows of trees and glowing fruit,

Though.  They stayed stunted there till ancient Greece

Flamed through.  A Christ endeavored to pollute

The scene, a crippled Christ who tortured peace

With sacrificial NOs and messed up dreams.

The ones who tried to eat his flesh and blood

Found powder on their tongues instead.  Dust beams

Filmed up the leaves and turned the orbs to crud.

Aegean sunlight bashed away this faith

And turned this Jesus into buried wraith.
