The Vanishing
Modern poetry modern verse contemporary poetry contemporary verse modern poem contemporary poem
A perfect poem that a poet knew
(Or nearly knew) attempted to escape

From in his ribs and mind. It almost grew.
He got a glimpse of it, its shining shape.
Then it was gone. An artist almost caught
The flash required to fire his whole career.
It spread across his inner skull. He sought
To grasp the form, but saw it disappear.
A shock wave from the cosmos rippled past
