The melting village
Snow tells everyone, release
Glad ponies:  freedom.
~ Shiki [Englished by Phillip Whidden]

The cat comes in from wet and frozen grass,

Some wet, some frozen, and his paws know truth.

He twirls his tail.  He does not need a Mass.

He knows the truth.  He’s known it from his youth

While kneading on his mother’s fur for milk

In mouth and throat and tummy.  He is wise.

He rubs his human’s shin and knows the silk

Of living.  Eyelids glide down over eyes.

A furry surety of comfort shows

He understands the world around his heart

Because that fur on pupils shows he knows

Love’s meaning since this one man knows his part.

This grown up kitten soon will speed to play

Wild skittles up the stairs.  He need not pray.
